Cayagzi
is 3 km to Demyra. As you approach from Kas. 1 km to demyra there is a
turn signposted to Cayagzi. After the junction you will drive, alongside
the stream, for 2 km more. Cayagzi is the mouth of Demyra Stream where
it reachs the sea. |
There is a sand beach approximately
1 km long. The stream bisects the sandstrip.
There is a restaurant at
the shore. Vessels setting off from Cayagzi Iskelesi (quay) cruise onexcursions
covering Kekova, Kalekoy and Ucagiz. Cayagzi is also frequented by pleasure
boats on Blue Voyage.
Ancient town Andriacus used
to be here. Andriacus was the port city of Myra.
The most important remains
to be seen today in the ruins of the ancient city is the Hadrian Granary
200 m inlands from the sea. In the area between the Granary end the sea,
there are remains of some houses. Other then that there are vestiges of
aqueducts and the remains of a bath in the surroundings. |
Cayagzi beach, being quite
shallow, is especially advisible for families with children. The stream
water is refreshing. The mineral springs at the left side of the road,
as you drive from demyra to çayagzi are said to be good for
gastritis, parasites
of the intestines and kidney
ailments (kidney stones). |

Other beach of
Demyra:
Cayagzi is not the only
alternative in demyra for swiming. If you turn right rather than head
for the town center, a 1.5
km walk amidst green houses will take you to the shore.
Komurlu Plaji (beach) is
a 5 km sand strip. Part of it has been arranged as a park, mamely,
Baris Parki (peace park).
Another beach of Demyra is the continuation (extension) of Komurlu beach
called Suluklu Plaji (beach), this beach is situated west of the promontry.
There are restaurants in both of the beachs. |
