Kastamonu
region which is known as an ancient settlement area, had been the country
of Kasbkas in the 18.th century B.C. then it had been ruled by Hittites,
Phyrgians, Gimmerians, Lydians, Persians, Pontus, Roman and Byzantine Empires.
The ruins of Pompeipolis, the center of the province named Pabhagona which
Romans established is near Taskopru today.

seed of Kastamonu and greets visitors with its splendid sighfor centuries.

After
the Turks had begun to arrive in Anatolia, Kastamonu which opened its doors
and heart to Danismands, Anatolian Seljukians, the Dominions (Cobanogullari,
Candarogullari, Isfendiyerogullari) and Ottoman Empire became one of the
gavrnmental and cultural centres of these ages.

Atabey Mosque, Mahmut Bey Mosque, Ismail Bey Complex, Yilanli Health Centre,
Asir Efendi Inn, Karanlik Bedestan, Nasrullah Complex, Yakup Aga Complex
are some of these.
Kastamonu
had become famous as a "City of Maslem Saints" as well. Works and memories
remained firstly from the Halveti Tarigat's master Seyh Saban-i Veli and
then the other saints have introduced Kastamonu as one of an enterest point
of religious tourism. |
