Kastamonu
is one of the rare cities where traditional Turkish houses latest Ottoman
architecture samples can be found densely. Old dictricts and buildings
of Kastamonu, Taskopru, Kure, Inebolu and Abana which have been taken under
protection arouse nostalgia and admiration of visitors.

Ataturk

During
the Turkish National Struggle for Independence Kastamonu had become very
helpful by means of logistical support by provisions and amunition and
transporting men from Inebolu fort. Boatmen of Inebolu had been rew arded
with a medal of the Turkish War Independence. |

Kastamonu
has a special role during the period of Turkey's becamong contemporary.
Ataturk had started the Ban of Fez in Kastamonu and Inebolu between 23
- 31 August 1925. The documentaries about Ataturk's visit to Kastamonu
can be seen in the Kastamonu Museum which was opened in 1941. In the museum
some archeological and ethnographic works which were found during the excavations
and researches around Kastamonu have been exhibited. |
